Book Title: The Circuit
Book Review:

I learned about overcoming obstacles in the Circuit. Francisco and his family faced many obstacles. There was one time Torito (Little bull) got very sick and he was just a newborn. Papa and mama went to a curandera (witch doctor) to heal Torito. At first Torito was getting better but then he got worse. They didn’t know what to do, so mama promised that they would pray to El nino de Atocha for a year if Torito got better. Torito did get better and mama kept her promise. Another obstacle Francisco faced was not knowing English when he started first grade. It was a problem because he didn’t understand the teacher so he couldn’t learn. He had to repeat the first grade because he didn’t learn anything. These are just a few of the obstacles he faced and overcame.

Book Review:I learned about forgiveness in the book, The Circuit. Francisco forgave his dad for having a gun and hitting his mom. His father disappointed him and they had many problems but Francisco did not hold that against his father. And when Francisco accidently burned the house, his family forgave him. This family stuck together and forgave each other for their mistakes.

Book Title: The Circuit
Book Review:

In the book The Circuit, I learned that Francisco and his family had to overcome many obstacles. They had to cross the border illegally from Mexico to Santa Maria, California. Then the family couldn’t afford to stay anywhere so they had to go to a camp named Tent City. Francisco then went to school and he would miss a lot of schoolwork because he didn’t understand English . So he would only do art to help him learn. And he would also get bullied because he was Mexican. Francisco missed school for 5 years in order to work to help his family with bills. He went back to school in 8th Grade. When Francisco had to present for an assignment in school, the immigration police (La Migra) came and took him and his brother back to Mexico. They eventually made it back and things got better.

Book Title: Reaching Out
Book Review: I learned about accepting others in the book Reaching Out. Laura accepted Francisco even though he was Mexican and crossed the border illegally. Laura explained to Francisco that her uncle had also crossed the border illegally. Francisco was surprised because he thought that Laura was not going to accept him because he had been rejected by Peggy in eighth grade. Peggy’s parents did not approve of Francisco and they influenced her to not be friends with him. In college, Francisco met Laura and he knew that she was the girl that was the love of his life. He was honest about being an illegal immigrant to Laura and her family. They accepted him and his family was proud of him for not being ashamed. His family would always lie and tell people they were Mexican but born in California. Francisco knew that it was a wrong to lie, and decided not to hide the truth. We should never have to deny who we are in order to be accepted.

Book Title: Esperanza Rising
Book Review:

This book was about a rich girl who didn't have to do anything and lost her father forcing her to live under her uncle’s ( Tio Luis )

conditions. Women in Mexico at that time were not allowed to own land so Esperanza’s mom only owned the house. This forced them to move to Arvin ,California with their ( used to be servants.) They had to work hard there and Esperanza started working too because of her mom getting valley fever. This was a big change in her life, in a short time. In these camps different people had different conditions so some people striked for better pay and conditions. These strikers put things in the workers things and later got deported back to Mexico.Later on in this story Esperanzas grandmother came and everyone got excited. On the end Esperanza remembers the mountains and valleys( good and bad times ) shes been through so she goes and sees if she could still hear the lands heartbeat.

Book Review: In this book a girl named Nikki Maxwell is always being chastised by a girl named Mackenzie Hollister. Mackenzie would threaten and say mean things to Nikki. This is a form of bullying. From Mackenzie bullying Nikki, Nikki would think about bad things that will happen to her, feel insecure at times, and worried about coming to school and having to face Mackenzie.

The book Esperanza Rising about a girl that is about 11 years old. She has lost her father right before her birthday. Her house has been given to her mother but the land that the house sits on is given to her uncle Tio Luis. The house is burned down and thats when the move to California.
My favorite part of the book by far was when Mama looks at the man where the border of Mexico and the United States was. She gave him all their papers but he was still asking dumb questions. Since she didn’t want to answer one of the question she told him that her papers were all fine and she gave him a look. It was so funny because he looked at her again and she was still giving him the stare.
I would recommend this book to people that like books based on true stories. Also if you like sad stories that have a happy ending and have some kinda funny parts but are more serious.

Introduce the book:
The book “Wonder” was about a homeschooled fifth grader named August, August’s is deformed. This year he’s going to go to an actual school instead of homeschooling, even though he doesn’t want to. Three students named Charlotte, Julian, and Jack introduce August to the new school. But one of the students (Julian) was mean to August and is still mean to him throughout the whole story. Also when August goes to school he gets bullied for how he looks.

Tell about the book, but don’t give away the ending.
August turns out to have two best friends Jack and a girl he meets named Summer. One day, Jack betrayed August and made fun of him with a mask on. Sooner August forgives Jack and they become best friends. The school goes on a sort of field trip to see “The Sound Of Music”. During the movie August and Jack go to the bathroom, but they get stopped by a group of teens. The teen were going to beat them up, but a kid named Amos saved August and Jack. The teens chase them for a while and when they stopped they all went back to the movie.

Tell about your favorite part of the book or make a connection:
My favorite part of the book is when Amos standed up for August and Jack. He could’ve just kept walking, but he didn’t. He saved August and Jack, with Amos they probably would’ve gotten really hurt. This changed the whole story from bullying to helping someone. It was really a turning point, a good turning point.
Give a recommendation (e.g. If you like…, you will love this book, or I recommend this book to anyone who likes…)
I recommend this book to a kid who is suffering bullying to show that people will stand up to you and the bullying will stop. Or to someone who wants to stop bullying. But I think that anyone who reads this book will enjoy it. Wonder is probably one of the best books I read.

Book Review: The Truth About Truman School

Recently, I finished reading The Truth About Truman School (T.A.T.) by Dori Hillestad Butler. Dori lives in Morton Grove, IL and has written books for teens and children. She had received both Children’s Choice Award and Iowa Teen Award.

The main character’s in T.A.T. is Zebby and Amr, create a website called thetruthabouttruman.com. They wanted it to be a way for people to know the honest and real things that were going on at Truman Middle School. They wanted to have a place to say the things that the school newspaper wouldn’t ever say but it soon turned into a cyberbullying website and had to be shut down.

The book has taught me about what cyberbullying is and that it is wrong and that cyberbullying can happen to anyone. There was this girl named Amanda Todd who was cyberbullied. An older man posted naked pictures of her and said she gave him H.I.V. There was also a movie called Cyberbully. It’s about a girl who gets picked on in school and on the internet. The movie shows that anyone can be cyberbullied, even your close friend.

While I sometimes felt angry at the book, overall I thought it was a great book. The author did a very great job of keeping the person who was the cyberbully hidden and try to trick us and make us confused on who the cyberbully was. Amr and Trevor were in the hot seat because they were both tech masters.

I would recommend this book to 12-21 year olds because teens are mostly the ones who participate in cyberbullying. However, before they read T.A.T, they should understand how they use hurtful words.

Book Title: Bus station Mystery by Gertrude chandler
Book Review: Recently i finished reading The Bus station mystery by Gertrude chandler warner. Gertrude Chandler Warner was born on april 16 in Putnam, connecticut. One of her favorite books was Alice in Wonderland. Also she volunteer for the american red cross.
The main characters , Henry, Jessica, benjamin and james are going to a fair by a nearby town. They were wondering how and when are they getting back home and what time when they are getting there. When they got off the train waiting for the next one they met a unusual train manager. The Aldens soon found out that the river is being polluted by a factory.
In writing this book Chandler was trying to help us understand pollution. Anderson is also trying to say that you should find other jobs of find other ways to work in a factory instead of making pollution on earth.
While sometimes i felt bored overall i really felt suspenseful and enjoyed the book. The author did a great job keeping things in place and making the book mysterious. The only thing i did not like was how the river was polluted by a bus station it would have been great if it was by a abandoned bus station of house.
I would recommend this book to people who like mystery books. This book should be read by people who like to be surprised.

Book Review

The name of the book that I read is called Warriors: Dawn. The author of the books’ name is Erin Hunter. She was inspired to write the book because she loves cats. She also wrote it because, She loves to write about Animal’s behaviors.

Four clans of cats who lived in the forest were being killed and captured by people in machines. How they were getting killed is by the workers cutting down the trees. While that was happening , Six cats set out to find out a new phone for them to live because if they stayed then they would have died.
This book shows what certain people do to animals such as like in the book these workers were destroying the cats habitats/ homes and hurting and killing these cats. This is what these animals had to go through. They barely had any food because those machines were either killing their prey or their prey would run away from that area.
I loved this book because towards the end, The six cats finally found a new home. They traveled back to the forest with their family and told them about their journey and then a few days later when every Clan leader decided that they were going to go, All four clan cats set out on a journey to their very new home, With the six cats leading the way.
I would recommend this book to someone who loves Animals, Adventure, And action. Even though this book had a lot of bad things throughout the story, Good things started to happen towards the end, So it would be a good book for these kind of people.

The name of the book that i am doing on bullying is called “A matter of trust” by Anne Schraff. Schraff was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She is also the author of five bluford series books.Schraff is an award winning author who started writing books as a teenager in the 1950’s. She also, spent 10 years teaching high school at california state university. she moved to northridge at age of 10 traveled by herself.
A matter of trust by Anne schraff is about main character Darcy wills and Hakeem Randall. They are an amazing couple in grade school get broken up because of Brisana meeks. Brisana and Darcy were supposed to be best friends but ever since Darcy started hanging out with tarah, and cooper Brisana’s been acting strange towards Darcy.
The point of the book is keep your friends close but your enemies closer. What i mean by that is to have associates but not have that many friends because in grade school there are so many fake people you won’t know who to trust. I learned that a friend is not a person that tell you what to do or who you have to hang out with. Brisana meeks told Darcy not to hang out with tarah or copper because they were zero’s/lames and brisana and darcy were ten’s/popular and Brisana thought that Darcy broke her promise so Brisana can’t trust Darcy any more.
I liked the book because it tells me not not to be a bully and be in mess. It also, is good because even if you have a friend and you think there you friend then they talk about you thats not a friend at all. But what i think the author could have made the book a little bit longer because it ended well.

Bullying

Comment:In the book, Wonder by R.J. Palacio, August was born with a cleft palate. The book is about how a kid gets bullied because people think he is not normal. The other kids think he is a monster and tease him. He doesn’t have a normal face like others and in my opinion that is not normal to tease people for being different. No one is perfect in this world and no one should tease anyone for being different.

Book Title: Saraswati’s Way
Book Review: The name of the book I read was called Saraswati’s Way by Monika Schroder. Schroder is an award winning author who likes to write historical fiction for adults. Her hobbies are traveling and learning about different cultures.

In Saraswati’s Way, the main character, Akash struggles to find a tutor to help him with the Seventh Standard. His father dies and the landlord forces Akash to work for him when his family doesn’t pay rent. Akash ditches work to go find a tutor in Delhi. He stays with a newspaper stand owner, Ramesh, and helps him work to earn money for a tutor. When Akash finds a tutor, they don’t teach him what he wants to learn. Akash gets fast money selling drugs for a friend so he can go find a better tutor, but their boss abuses them a fires them. Akash is stranded and doesn’t know what to do.

The story wants the reader to know that you’re going to have some obstacles in the way of your goal, but you should keep going no matter what . Akash tries to follow Saraswati’s way , but it seems she has abandoned him, because it seems he has tried to force Saraswati into showing him the way.

This book was okay. It didn’t have as much bullying in it as I thought it would, but it definitely had some good examples.

I would recommend this book to people who like to learn about foreign countries and cultures.

Book Review:
I recommend this book because I learned a lot about the environment. I learned that all over the world there are beautiful grasslands. Grasslands exist because of wildfires. Wildfires burn down trees that take over grasslands. Recently, people have been putting out wildfires, and planting trees in grasslands. This destroys grasslands. People are destroying grasslands at a very fast rate. Soon they could be gone for good. Because I learned this I recommend this book.

Recently I read a book called The Notes Midnight driver by Jordan Sonnenblick. Jordan is an American writer of many young adult books. He graduated from New York City Stuyvesant high school, and of university of Pennsylvania Jordan was born July 4 1969.
Alex Gregory a 16 year old boy decided to go drink and visit his Fathers house in his Mother's car he wanted to talk because he was dating his 3rd grade english teacher. When he gets arrested he had to do community service which is not as fun.
The main point of the story is to show you how drinking and driving is life changing. I feel that the book did not show the weight of drinking and driving but it did show how it would change your life.
Also I feel that if it had more things happen to him it would be better as an eye opener. I would recommend this book to someone who makes many mistakes in life.

Have you ever heard of bullying? Bullying is a type of abuse that can come in various ways. The book that I am reviewing overviews bullying, and how to deal with it. It even provides a survey to see if you are or are becoming a bully. The book that was read is titled, Bullies are a Pain in the Brain, and it is written by Trevor Romain. He helps people that are bullied, and helps those that bully others. He offered very useful information on two important subjects. The first subject that was discussed is what bullies are. The second, and last topic focuses on how to deal with bullies.
The book described what a bully is, and why they pick on others. It further stated that bullies who lack self-confidence, often pick on others in order to make themselves feel better. It also gave information on how to identify a bully. The author listed characteristics that one can typically find in a bully. However, the characteristics listed were traits that anyone could have.
The second part of the book talked about how to deal with bullies. The author of the book said that when dealing with a bully, one should not ignore them, but talk to that person to resolve the issue. It was even stated that In some cases, the bully becomes best friends with the victim. Additionally, one should have more confidence in themselves because bullies look for those that can be easily taken advantage of because of low self-confidence. They choose to bully people who they think will NOT fight back. This book helps to give you the power to fight back.

I would recommend this book to people that have been bullied before and do not know how to defend themselves.

This was an excellent book for me to read. I myself have been a victim of bullying throughout most of my grammar school years. I hope you have enjoy reading this book like I have, and good luck with bullies!

The book I read was called Education For All. The author of the book was Ron Fridell. Ron writes many childrens books. He also writes some young adult books. His books are about many different topics.
In this book the author informs the reader that not every child is getting a proper education. He talks about how in 1990, at a UN meeting, the world agreed that every child should be educated. They said that by 2000 every child would be educated. They took steps but didn’t succeed in getting every child educated. In 2000 at the next UN meeting they agreed to have every child educated by 2015. The UN is still thinking of many strategies to help hard to reach children, and they may succeed in their goal.
The point of the book was to inform the reader. The author informed the reader that not every child was getting educated. He also talked about how some girls are not getting educated because of their gender. He also talked about how some hard to reach children are not getting educated because of their location. The author mostly talked about how some kids don’t get an education.
I enjoyed reading this book. I enjoyed it because it informed me about the world. It also informed me about the struggles that other children face to get an education. For example, in Nepal children must walk many miles in mountains to get to school. In Cambodia some children go to school on boats. In Australia, many children get their education over the radio or on computers. It shows me that other people have worse lives than me. It also shows me that I shouldn’t hate school because other children are really trying to be educated.
I would recommend this book to people who also hate school, to people who know someone in one of these situations, and to people who want to learn. I would recommend this to many types of people.

Book Title: The Beast by Walter Dean Myers
Book Review:Recently I finished a book call The Beast Walter Dean Myers in the critically acclaimed New York Times bestselling of more than eighty books for young adults. Walter Dean Myers have received two Newbery honors and five Coretta Scott king awards. In 2012, Walter Dean Myers was named National Ambassador for Young People's Literature. Walter Dean Myers lives in Jersey City, New Jersey.

The two main characters in The Beast are Spoon and Gabi. Spoon is going to school and working hard but that change when he goes to home for the holiday. After he gets home he soon meets up with his girlfriend Gabi and then he soon find out that she on drugs. After he finds out he ask her when did u get on drugs and he tries to help her. He starts missing school and class to help her

In writing this book Walter Dean Myers was trying to help you understand the point of view of a teenager on drugs and is facing the death of her mother while being on drugs Walter Dean Myers is also trying to say that when a person is in trouble you should do the right thing and help them. Even if it’s harming your education.

In this book sometimes I was confuse but overall I think the book give good examples of how drugs can affect others. For example in the story it says that “Spoon stayed for a couple of months’ to help Gabi “this shows that him helping her affected him going to school. Another example is that Gabi was a great writer after she started drugs she could not write any more. This shows that drugs affect her life and the way she write.

I would recommend this book to teenagers. However before they read The Beast they should know that they should know that it has the name of a lot of drugs you should not use. This book should be read by teenagers that don’t plan on using drugs.

Comment: This boy Kevin uses crutches and he meets another kid named Max. They both like the book, King Arthur and become friends. In school, some bullies start messing with Kevin by rolling a ball at him so he could fall. The two boys are always get bullied by Blade and his gang. The boys end up helping each other against Blade. The boys just want to feel safe. It is unfair not to not feel safe at school and outside of school.

Comment: Cesar Chavez wanted better wages for his work. He was picking crops for $2.00 a day. The women and gentlemen had to use the same bathroom that was outside and there was only one. Cesar Chavez made the first strike for 5 years and he won. This story had a lot of problems.

The book about Cesar Chavez was about fighting for civil rights. The owners of the farms didn’t pay them well and didn’t treat them well. Cesar united the Mexican people with the Filipinos to strike and to not eat the grapes. Cesar went to jail for striking but he got out. He finally won the strike.

Cesar Chavez fights for his and others’ civil rights because it is the right thing to do. He was fighting for farm workers to get paid more. Also, she wanted better working conditions, like having bathrooms. The farm owners didn’t give them bathrooms because they said Mexicans don’t know how to use them. They fought for their rights by doing a huelga (strike) where a lot of farm workers joined. After a while the farm workers still didn’t do anything so Cesar Chavez decided to not eat for a long time. Then had a boycott so they wouldn’t buy grapes. After 5 years the farm owners finally gave in and gave them their rights.

Bullying
Comment:In the book, Freak the Mighty, a bunch of boys bullied two boys. One of the boys defended the little boy. The bullies made fun of the little boy and treated unfairly. Just like in the book Cesar Chavez the farmers were treated unfair because they were different and poor. They were not paid fairly and they were working hard and they worked a lot of hours. These are two examples where people were bullied and taken advantage of.

Comment: Cesar Chavez was a very poor and nice, caring person. He was poor and the farm owners thought it was okay for everyone to use the toilets in the fields. Women had to go to the bathroom in front of the men with only a sheet to cover them. Cesar started a strike so everybody could have the same rights. He wanted workers to have separate bathrooms so that they could have privacy. He also wanted to have them earn more money for their hard work.

Bruiser

The book I read is Bruiser. The is Neal Shusterman. He has written over 30 books for all ages.He also wrote a screenplay for “Goose Bumps”.

The book is mainly about a who is bullied by always being ignored. His name is Brewster Rawlins. He is called the bruiser and was voted “most likely to receive the death penalty” in 7th grade.

The point of the book was to show that bullying can happen when you purposely ignore someone.

I liked this book because it showed that the world has a bad side.I also liked it because a boy changed his life and got friends.

I would recommend this book to someone who can handle the bad side of the world.

COMMENT: In this book, kids get bullied because of the way they look. They call one boy duck face because of his lips. He said that he was scared to go to school because it was hard for him to make friends. On the bus ride home he saw a boy and he also got bullied. He tried to become his buddy. The boy said I am not your buddy. The bullies on the bus would strangle him and call him bad words. His parents knew it is hard for him but he would defend the bullies and say that they were just being silly. His sister she does not want to go to school because people think that her brother is weird and he got more sad. It is really sad that bullying can hurt so many people.I wrote about this because no one should be treated in a way that makes them uncomfortable.

Comment: I just finished reading a book called “The Gun/ Payback” by Paul Langan. Paul Langan is currently married with kids. He now lives in Philadelphia. He also recently just got his masters degree in education.

In the story a boy named Tyray Hobbs finally got off his suspension from school and is upset when he finds out that his friends don’t want to hangout with him anymore because he lost a fight to the weakest kid in school. He finally decides to get revenge and get something he never thought of getting a gun.

I think the point of this book is to show people that violence doesn’t solve anything. Its just makes you end up in trouble. For example, in the book Tyray had a chance to kill somebody but he didn’t. Tyray wanted to get a gun so he could point it at people who messed with him so they could be scared of him and think that he was gonna kill them. He lied to a girl just to get the money and when he lost the money the girl gave him he stole the money from his mom just to get a gun.I think my character learned that he should never steal. I learned that if i ever want to get revenge I think I should forgive and forget the situation.

I thought this was a really good topic to write about because a lot of people want to get back at somebody for what they did to them. Sometimes they actually do want to buy a gun a kill somebody. So i do think this is a good topic to write about.

I would recommend this book to kids who act mean or have thought about buying a gun or someone who was trying to harm someone. Also would recommend this book to other kids so they could know what not to do.

Maybe because that was a happy city or time for them. Very famous African American lived there. I think that many people ( not famous) would always remember that they were living with them. This is important because they were poor and got to be famous. Getting famous takes a lot of courage and perseverance.

A Million Shades of Grey Book Review

Cynthia Kadohata By: Yasmine S.

Recently I read the book “A Million Shades of Grey” by Cynthia Kadohata. She won a newbery medal in 2005. And national book award for the thing about luck.
“A Million Shades of Grey” is about a boy who suffers the consequences of war, when his village goes in attack by Northern Vietnam Y’Tin loses everything he has including his friends, his beloved elephant, his house, and his normal life. And he learns how life becomes different in war.
The point of the book was to show kids how others feel during war. Some kids are more fortunate than others, this book helps them experience how some people feel everyday because of war.

I enjoyed reading this book because it was a whole new experience to me and very interesting. I never thought that even kids have to fight in war making them suffer the pain of war adults have to suffer, besides lack of food or shelter.
I would recommend this book to anyone ages 8+ to fully understand the book and understand what is happening in the book. This book is great and teaches you about hardship through a fun, loving, and adventures book.

Book Title: Education For All: Floating Schools, Cave Classrooms, and Backpacking Teachers. By Ron Fridell
Book Review:

I chose a book about education around the world, particularly in developing countries, called Education for All: Floating Schools, Cave Classrooms, and Backpacking Teachers by Ron Fridell. Mr. Fridell has personal experience in developing countries, having taught English as a second language while a member of the Peace Corp in Bangkok, Thailand. He earned a Master's degree in radio, television, and film from Northwestern University in Evanston.

Education for All is about education around the world. Poor and developing countries, particularly Afghanistan, Yemen, and Somalia, have few and underfunded schools and a limited supply of teaching resources and teachers. Some of these schools are just shacks. These countries spend a big chunk of their money on war and leave out education. Richer nations like the United States give big loans to these countries for schools; however, the poor countries waste a lot of the money on things other than schools, which was the original loan purpose. Also these loans create big debts which cost many millions; many countries cannot repay the loans. Some developing countries have also received help from non-government organizations (NGOs), which have opened a number of schools run by people local to area. This is one way to avoid the debt trap.

The main point of the book is that bringing education to all is very hard to achieve even when people really want it. In many countries, war makes going to schools dangerous or the schools are being moved to avoid conflicts. In Fatsi, Ethiopia, students in 2003 were living in caves and being taught in moving school “houses” to avoid the war. This is now the case in Syria where school kids can’t get access to schooling because of the war.

I felt this book was inspiring in the stories about how hard people work to get education. I chose this book because I wanted to compare my experience with students around the world and it was good for this. I found it interesting that the book, written in 2003, stated that the United Nations wanted education for all by 2015 (after the original target date of 2000 didn’t work out). I think this isn’t going to happen because we still have so many problems with educating kids in the United States and around the world.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in how children are educated in other countries around the world. Education for All is a particularly good book if you want to learn about different schools in developing and developed nations. I don’t believe you need much more than an interest in the world in order to enjoy this book . I learned that war cripples schools, but people will do whatever it takes to teach their kids.

Book Title: Sometimes My Mom Drinks too Much

Book Review:This book by Sheila Stewart and Rae Simons is a non-fiction informational book. Its interesting book because in the beginning it has a story about a kid whose parent drinks too much. After the short story they explain it and what alcoholism is like for a better understanding. I recommend this book to kids who want to understand what their parent is going through in alcoholism and can be prepared when something happens. They can know why this is happening.

Book Title: Ellis Island
Book Review: The book I read about told me a lot about what things they did in Ellis Island, for example, needing to do a health check and other different types of checks. This book is a non-fiction informational book that has true stories, quotes, and fun information about Ellis Island. I did not have any connections about the book but I would recommend it because it has a lot of information of the past of Ellis Island and pictures to help us understand. I think a kids that had family members that went through Ellis Island would like this book and would like to learn more about it.

Book Review:the author of the book I read was written by Roza G. the book is nonfiction informational. the book tells about the very first immigrants . It also tells about slavery and how abraham Lincoln was very concerned about that. I think this would be a good book for kids who are still learning about how all this immigration started. Book Title: Performance-Enhancing Drugs in Sports
Book Review: I read this book called Performance Enhancing Drugs in Sports by Tony Khing. This book is nonfiction and an informational book. What makes this book interesting is that it tells you the athlete that uses a type of performance enhancing drugs and how it affects their career. The connections that I have made is that since they are using drugs to boost themselves and I feel bad because some of the athletes that use these drugs were my idols. I would recommend it because I think people deserve to know that some of their idols use drugs. I would recommend this to kids who are into sports because they need to know the results of using these bad drugs.

Book Title:We beat the street
Book Review: I readed the book “We beat the street.” The author of this story is Davis, sampson. This book is nonfiction because its base of a real story. This book is a informational book because its talking about a story that did happened in real life and how the three boys/men became doctors and how hard it was to became a doctors because they grow up in the “ghetto.” This book is interesting because of the struggle they went through became doctors, and they didn't quit just because of the struggle they kept following their dreams until they became doctors. This book remembers me of this person, because that person did follow his dream even tho…..he did drugs and sold drugs at one point…but he still kept with his dreams which was to finish school and have a house.I recommend this book because this book talk about real things in life.I’ll recommend this book to people who say “ oh i live in the “ghetto” so i can't have dreams. or I can't follow my dream,” because you really can.

Book Title: Gay Issues and Politics: Marriage, The Military, and Workplace Discrimination.
Book Review: This book was really interesting, it showed a lot of things about society and how it treats homosexual people. In Greenwich Village, cops in plainclothes raid a gay hangout. The cops were now targets of thrown stones, and police cars smashed by parking meters. GAys can only be married in 5 states! (Including Washington DC) So… America isn’t really that free for specific people. If you want to know about Gay Issues and Politics, this book is for you.

Book Review:1. I think it will be fair for the crime scene to be away from children because hey could get shot.
2. I think it will be fair if the book wouldn’t tell you if you are doing a crime it tells you what not to do if you’re doing a crime.
3.it will be fair if the crime and the crime scene will be inside a bulding because if people saw the crime scene maybe it will incourage them to do a crime.

Book Review:I disagree that people should not have guns because the crime is high in the united states and they average 30 people. it will not be fair that people should not have guns because people shot 12,000 people every year. I think that when people shoot they can killed someone so they should not have guns. In my opinion that people have guns is not good because when people buy guns and killed them with their guns a lot.

Book Title: The girl from the tar paper school
Book Review:Barbara was just like Rosa Parks. I read one of the chapters from the book and it seems like Barbara has the same bravery like Rosa. African American children from Prince Edward County were unable to attend school so Barbara went to court and fought so that African American kids could’ve go to school. As a result the Supreme Court ruled that Prince Edward County violated the fourteenth Amendment by not letting black children get their education. What I think about this is that Barbara did the right thing and that all those children should be thankful.

Science vs Crime
1. I agree that crime is good finding bad guys with clues .

2.I agree that science could help with your assessment and with crime and search with clues.

3.I agree that crime is helpful than science because crime could find clues, details
4.I agree that science could solve mystery than crime because they use that who did this.

My opinion is crime and science are helpers because they could find the bad guys and the clues and the mystery.

Book Title: Saraswati’s Way
Book Review: The name of the book I read was called Saraswati’s Way by Monika Schroder. She lives in Germany, and was an elementary school teacher and librarian.

In the book, the main character is Akash. He can’t find a tutor to for Seventh Standard. Akash’s dad dies. Akash to work for the him because rent doesn’t get paid. Akash has to go find a tutor so he ditches work. Ramesh is a newspaper owner, and helps him earn money for a tutor. When Akash finds a tutor, they don’t teach him correctly. Akash sells drugs for a friend so he can go find a better tutor, but their boss fires them. Akash is stranded and can’t figure out what to do.

The message is that you should never quit and always keep trying because everything turns out fine. Akash follows Saraswati’s way, but she has abandoned him, because it feels like he has forced him into telling him what to do.

This book had a back and forth feeling. It didn’t have as much bullying, but it definitely had examples.

I would recommend this book to people who have a life like Saraswati so they can relate.
